Western Stage Review

About

Western Stage Review is about the craft of making amateur theatre: the decisions that shape a script, a rehearsal room, a production and the work shared by a company. It is for performers, directors, backstage contributors and curious theatregoers who want to understand how those choices fit together.

The work around the performance

We cover script selection, rehearsal habits, direction, stage design and production planning. The aim is to make the reasoning visible: what a choice asks of a company, what it makes easier, and what it may complicate.

Advice that leaves room for judgement

Theatre happens in particular rooms with particular people. We offer adaptable ways to think through a decision, not a formula that every company must follow. Suggestions stay within ordinary creative practice and do not replace specialist help where a task calls for it.

A company is more than the cast

A production depends on many kinds of work, from reading a scene closely to keeping a handoff clear. We treat practical organisation and artistic choices as connected parts of making the play.
